This project focusedĀ on exploring how texts and images can be combined within a publication, using a grid to achieve a balance between consistency and flexibility. The challenge was to create a layout system that worked with different kinds of information (e.g. continuous text, captions, footnotes, large images, small images, etc.) and reading strategies.
London Essays presented several difficult decisions when it came to keeping the spread interesting, the variety of text (some not including images) meant that some articles would be more engaging than others. This is where type variation, typeface choice and use of language have to be strong to have an impact equal to images.
